Resource Management Overview

Last Updated: Nov 13, 2017 03:55PM EST

With AgSquared Plus you can manage all of your farm resources including your staff, supplies and machinery, and allocate them to calendar activities so that you can accurately track the cost of production for each of your plantings and crops. This article provides an overview AgSquared's resource management and cost tracking tools and features.

You can manage your staff in AgSquared by creating a profile for each member of your team.   Staff profiles in AgSquared include photos, contact information, job title and employment dates. Additionally, if your staff member has an hourly wage you can add it to their profile. Entering an hourly wage is the first step if you want to keep track of a given staff member’s labor cost overtime.  Check out the following articles on how to Add Staff Members and  Manage your Staff.

Machinery on your farm may include tractors, implements, vehicles and draft equipment. Depending on the type of machinery you want to keep track of, you can enter and save different information, including commercial details, fuel consumption rates, wheel spacing, and engine and hitch power. Learn more about about adding machinery to your account here.

Supplies include everything from irrigation and greenhouse materials to fertilizers and tools.  For each supply on you farm, you can enter and save the important details such as its cost, commercial information, material details and dimensions.  Learn more about adding and managing your supplies here.

A purchase is an inventory item of a resource.  For each Resource in your account you can assign multiple purchases, and enter in important information such as the quantity purchased, date acquired, and storage location. Entering purchases allows you trace your resource use back to specific purchases, as well as keep track of where your inventory is located on the farm.  Learn more about Purchases here.

Assigning Costs
By entering in a cost for each of your resources (Staff, Machinery, and Supplies) and then assigning these resources to activities in your calendar, you can effectively track the total resource quantities and costs that go into growing each one of your plantings and crops in AgSquared.  Click here to learn how to assign costs to resources, and check out this article to view the different steps that are required to do cost tracking for your crops and plantings.

Above: Assigning costs to your resources is the first step in being able to do cost tracking and accounting in AgSquared.

Allocating your Resource Use and Costs
You can allocate resources to each activity you complete in your AgSquared Calendar in order to keep record of when, where, and to which plantings your resources were applied.  This is a key step for tracking the cost of production for your plantings and crops on your farm.  For more on how to allocate costs, see this article.

Reviewing your Costs

Once you assign resources to activities that are linked to plantings, you can view the cost of production for each one of your plantings and crops in their respective cost tab in the Crops Tool.

Above: In the cost tab, you can see an overview of the total costs of production for a planting or crop.
