Deleting Plantings and Crops

To create a crop plan in AgSquared, you'll want to add all of the crops and plantings that you intend to grow to your Crops Tool.  If you want to delete plantings for any reason, you can do that within the Crops Tool as well.

Adding Crops

You can add a crop by clicking on the add crop icon in the Crops Tool.  In the form that opens, enter in your crop's name (required), a description of the crop (optional), and any beneficial functions (optional) it may have. You can also select an icon for your crop from the list of icons.

The icons are arranged in alphabetical order, and if you can't find an icon that matches your crop, you can choose one that is similar to it or just use the grey default crop icon.

When you are done, click save and your crop will be added to your Crops Tool.  At anytime you can edit the information you've entered about a crop by simply clicking on the crop's name and revealing its Overview tab. To do so, click on the Edit Crop button (pencil icon) in any crop's Overview Tab:

Adding Plantings

Once you have added a crop to your account, you will then need to create and add plantings that belong to that crop.   There are 2 ways that you can add a new planting:

  1. Click on the +Planting button.

  2. Go to the Overview tab of any Crop and click on +Add a new planting (circled in red below)

In the Edit Planting Form that opens, enter your crop's name (required), common name (optional), and variety (required).

Note: plantings must be assigned to a crop that already exists in your account.

Planting Types

On the right side of page 1 of the Edit Planting Form (see above), enter in the planting type that you are adding. Planting type is an important designation because each of the three options has its own sequence of forms to be filled out on the next page of the Edit Planting Form.

There are 3 Planting type options:

  1. In-Ground Planting - This is a planting that is sown directly into the ground (either outside or in a greenhouse).

  2. Container, then In-Ground Planting - This is a planting that is sown in a container and then transplanted into the ground (either in a field or greenhouse).  Container plantings can be “potted up” in as many containers as is necessary.

  3. Container Planting - Container plantings are plantings that remain in containers while they are on your farm, and can also be “potted up” as many times as necessary.

To learn more about planting types, see this article.

Once you’ve added in your Planting Type, you can also specify your planting’s In-Ground Field Layout, In-Ground Planting Layout and the Type of Planting Material (all optional).  If your plantings will be planted in beds, be sure to select “Beds” as your In-Ground Planting Layout.

Click "Save and Continue"  to go the second page of the Edit Planting Form where you can enter information about the planting's sowing, transplant and harvest dates, or Click “Save and Exit” to save your planting without adding any more information.

On the second page of the Edit Planting form, you can enter in key dates associated with your planting, including sowing, transplant and harvest dates.  Depending on how you'd like to schedule your plantings, you can use this form to calculate your dates for you. For example, if you know when you'd like to sow your planting and its days to maturity, you can use the calculator in the following manner:

  1. Enter the desired Sowing Date and Days to Maturity. The calculator will then calculate the First Harvest date (you might need to click on the First Harvest date box to trigger the calculation).

  2. Next enter your anticipated harvest duration. The Final Harvest date for that planting will then be calculated.

  3. Click Save and Exit and your planting and its dates will be added to its respective crop in the Crops tool. Alternatively, you could follow the steps above in reverse order to calculate backwards from a desired final harvest date.

Check out the video below to see how this form works:

Once you have entered your dates, click Save and your dates will be saved and visible in the plantings' Overview Tab. At this point you can enter in more information about a planting, such as its location, layout, and spacing, by clicking the Edit Sowing Details button found in the Overview tab.

Notes

-If you want manually enter dates you can do so by entering the dates and not entering numbers in the Days to maturity or Harvest duration boxes.

-When entering dates on Page 2 of the Edit Planting form for Container, then In-Ground Plantings, you will also be able to enter dates for each transplant as well as the number of days in between transplants.

- See this article for information on how to fill out the Editing Sowing Details form

Deleting Plantings and Crops

Delete a planting by clicking on the delete button (trash can) located just right of the Edit Planting button in the Planting Overview form or the Edit Crop Button in the Crop Overview form.  To delete multiple plantings or crops at once, add a checkmark next to each planting or crop that you'd like to delete, click on the down arrow next to the check box at the top of your crop list (just below your season filter) and then select delete.
